John P. Elia, Ph. D. (University of California, Davis, 1997) is a professor and associate chair in the Department of Health Education at San Francisco State University, where he has taught for over 25 years. He teaches courses on the history of public health in the U.S., contemporary sexuality, health in society, consumer health. Additionally, he serves as an Ed.D. doctoral program faculty member. His expertise is in hisotry and education. Dr. Elia's current research interests include the history of Public Health in San Francisco. He has co-edited 5 books, written a number of scholarly articles, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews in teh areas of human sexuality studies, and LGBT & queer studies. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Homosexuality.
