Marty Martinson is Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Education at San Francisco State University. She received her Masters and Doctorate in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley and her Masters in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her research interests include critical gerontology, political economies of aging and health inequities, social constructions of healthy aging, and qualitative approaches to public health inquiry. Her recent work critically explores the ethical implications of promoting ideals of healthy aging that privilege productivity, activity, and contribution over other ways of being and growing old. Her professional interests also include engaged learning and the uses of critical pedagogies in community health education.
